Dennis Wayne (Ducey) Zimmerman of Alexandria, Virginia.

After a courageous battle with heart disease, Ducey entered into his eternal rest February 18th 2017 at INOVA Fairfax Hospital, surrounded by his loving family and his fiancé. He was born December 5th 1961, to Larry and Katie Zimmerman. Ducey graduated from Waynesboro High School in 1980 and then enlisted in the US Air Force where he served 4 years as a Flight line Specialist. Following his honorable discharge from the US Air Force, Ducey was employed by UPS in Fishersville as a Delivery Driver. He was a dedicated employee who served his customers diligently for 28 years until having to take medical retirement from UPS April 1st 2016. Ducey loved his community and participated actively. He was a loyal and beloved member of the Waynesboro Elks Lodge and the Staunton Eagles Lodge. Ducey was an avid sports enthusiast, but his biggest passion was for his Pittsburg Steelers.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a beloved nephew, Jeff Zimmerman of Powhatan, whose courageous fight against cancer provided strength and courage to Ducey.

He is survived by his fiancé, Judy Hinton and five brothers:  Jim and wife, Janet, Ron and wife, Pauline, Charlie and wife, Sherry, Frank and wife, Jane, Acey and wife, Barbara, beloved nieces and nephews, and two very special girls he dearly loved, Courtney Muncy and Kennedy Brooks.

We are especially grateful to the VAD and Infectious Disease teams and nurses at Fairfax Hospital who treated Ducey as if he were family. We would also like to thank Hospice of the Shenandoah.

Ducey was loved by all who knew him. He loved and lived life passionately, insisting that he would do it “his way and on his terms” until the very end. His love for family and friends along with his courage and fighting spirit will leave a proud and lasting legacy.

There will be no formal visitation. Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, February 25, 2017 at Bridge Christian Church, 1275 Goose Creek Rd., Fishersville, with Phil Forehand officiating. Interment will be at Riverview Cemetery, with Dr. Emory M. Upshaw of Alexandria, officiating.

Active Pallbearers will be Jeff Frye, Kirk Knott, Dale Knott, Eddie Fitzgerald, Chuck Pierce and Dwight Rexrode.
