Hettie May Ramsey

Hettie May Ramsey, 97, of Waynesboro, passed away Sunday September 27, 2015 at Kings Daughters Health and Rehab.  She was born June 11, 1918 in Rockbridge County, the daughter of the late Robert Newton Painter and Lillie May (Grove) Painter.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Ray Ramsey, whom she married December 19, 1936, seven brothers and one grandson.

Hettie worked as an LPN at the hospital on West Main Street, Waynesboro Community Hospital and in the family sheet metal business after nursing.  A 55 year member of First Baptist Church, she was known as a kind landlady and also for her cooking, canning and flower and vegetable gardening.

Survivors include her daughter, Donna May Ramsey Nevers and husband, Leon, Moneta; son, Robert Ray Ramsey, Waynesboro; sister, Lorene Grant; five grandchildren, Douglas (Brent) Dewberry II, John Kenneth Dewberry, Diana Mae (Gary) McKee, Kenneth (Jamie) Nevers, Daniel (Holly) Nevers; numerous great-grandchildren and nieces and one great-great-granddaughter.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am Friday, October 2, 2015 at Riverview Cemetery.  Family and friends will assemble at the cemetery for the service.  There will be no public viewing at the funeral home.
