Vaxie Lorene Shapiro

Vaxie Lorene Shapiro, 82, of Stuarts Draft, passed away Monday, June , 2009, at Augusta Medical Center, Fishersville. She was born March 11, 1927, in Ranger, West Virginia, daughter of the late George R. Sowards and Nora Verbie Williamson Sowards.

Vaxie was the former owner and operator of the Southern Grill in Charleston, West Virginia. She and her late husband, Sol Shapiro, who died July 12, 2008, moved to this area from Charleston, in 1970.

In addition to her husband and her parents she was preceded in death by a brother, William Sowards and a sister Mable Sechler.

Survivors include her daughter, Georganna I. Harrick of Staunton; her siblings, Sally Jones and Wendell Wilkie Caldwell of Erlanger, Kentucky and Charles Westley Sowards; several nieces and nephews, to include, Marie Hammons, Melody Ann Collins, Matthew M. Jones, Raymond E. Bothe and Edwards A. Jones.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 P.M., on Wednesday, June 3, 2008, at Victory Worship Center, 200 Hammond Lane, Staunton, conducted by Pastor Ray Eppard.
