Thomas Openshaw Obituary

Thomas Clayton Openshaw, 78, of Fishersville, passed away on Friday, September 17, 2021 at Augusta Health. He was born in Upper Darby, PA, on January 8, 1943, a son of the late James Clayton and Alberta (Shaw) Openshaw.

Thomas proudly served in the United States National Guard. He worked for 25 years as a Machine Foreman with Union Oil Company in California. Thomas was a black belt to the six degree in karate and was an instructor in tai chi. He greatly enjoyed singing and playing the saxophone, and was a member of the Tom Paul Trio and the Blue Notes. Thomas was also an avid gardener and was well known for his orchids. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Alan Openshaw and siblings, James Henry Openshaw and Lucille Ruiz.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 55 years, Barbara Jane (Thomas) Openshaw; daughter, Vicki Hottel and husband, David; five grandchildren: Morgan, Bryce, and Logan Hottel and Caitlyn and Cody Openshaw; as well as extended family and friends.

No services will be conducted at this time.

 In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Thomas’s memory to the National MS Society, PO Box #91891, Washington, D.C. 20090.

The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to the Emergency Staff at Augusta Health, the Augusta Rescue Squad, and Pastor Rod with St. Peters Lutheran Church in Churchville for their loving care of Thomas and his family.
