Thomas Wayne Moore, 77, of 201 Court Road, Waynesboro, formally of 274 Kiddsville Road, Fishersville, died Wednesday, September 1, 2021in Birch Gardens, Staunton.
He was born April 6, 1944, in Augusta County, a son of the late James William, Sr., and Willie Thelma Hevener Moore
He served four years with the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War era as a jet engine mechanic and was a member of the USAF skeet team. As part of the skeet team, he competed across Europe.
He was a graduate of Valley Vocational Technical Center.
Prior to retirement in 2009, Mr. Moore was employed by Genicom, Virginia Panel and World Test companies.
He enjoyed all things involving guns, especially skeet, sporting clays and trap shooting. He was a local gunsmith for over 40 years. He was VA Skeet State Champion in 1988 and at the time of his death, he was the oldest living member of the VA Skeet Shooting Association. He joined Shenandale Gun Club in 1977, served as president in the mid 1980’s and became a lifetime member in 2006. He was member of Stonewall Rifle-Pistol Gun Club since 1990.
In addition to the love of his life, Gwen; family members include his daughter and son-in-law, Paula C. Moore-McClure and Rex A. McClure of Stuarts Draft, a nephew “more like a son” and his wife, James William “Jim” and Pamela Snider Moore, III of Stuarts Draft; a sister, Nancy Moore Fosie of Winter Haven, Florida; a sister-in-law, Mildred Meyerhoeffer Moore of Stuarts Draft; a niece Cindy Herron Turner of Winter Haven, Florida; two nephews, Rick Herron of Smith Mountain Lake, Gary E. Moore of Austin, Texas; numerous great nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, James William Moore, Jr and his sister and brother-in-law, Polly Moore Robertson and Thomas “Winnie” Robertson
A memorial service will be held at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, September 9, 2021 in the Charlton and Groome Chapel, 619 Lifecore Dr., Fishersville, officiated by Rev. Peter Choi, of Fishersville United Methodist Church.
The family will receive friends following the service.
Graveside services, with Military Honors, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 10, 2021 at Augusta Memorial Park.
Active and honorary pallbearers will be members of the Shenandale and Stonewall Gun Clubs
