Thelma Baber Campbell Obituary

Thelma Louise (Landes) Baber Campbell, 89, laid her head to rest and woke up with Jesus on Thursday, December 18, 2025.She was born May 10, 1936, in Waynesboro, Va, a daughter of Lettie Virginia and Richard Bell Landes.

Thelma graduated from Waynesboro High School and worked for Klann Organ for several years, later becoming a medical assistant for Dr. John Talbert when he opened his practice in Waynesboro. She worked throughout her career with several medical offices, and always loved caring for others.

Thelma showed her love to her family and friends through her talents in the kitchen, especially at Waynesboro Church of the Brethren, where she helped prepare thousands of meals as a lifelong member of the church.

Thelma had such great love and pride for her family, showering them with love and affection in every way possible. She was especially proud of her children and grandchildren, both those who were biologically hers and those she adopted through love and considered family.

In addition to her parents, Thelma was predeceased by seven brothers and sisters: Wallace Landes, James Landes, Carl Landes, Mae Landes Koontz, Edythe Landes McCauley, Paul Landes, and Harold (Meatball) Landes; as well as several nieces and nephews; three husbands: Gene H. Baber, Glenn H. (Buster) Baber, and John E. Campbell Jr.

She is survived by her daughter, Kaye Baber Shaner, and her husband, Keith; her grandchildren: Hailey Chittum, Dean Shaner, and John Shaner, and dozens of nieces and nephews who will always cherish her love and the lessons they learned from her.

The family would like to thank the staff of Shenandoah Hospice House, Dr. Timothy Kokanovich, the staff of Regency at Augusta, her niece Kathy Landes Toms, and Rev. Jenelle Watson for their excellent care and compassion.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
