Steven Maurice Jones

Steven M. Jones, 47, of Verona, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at his residence. He was born in Waynesboro on June 14, 1975.

“Smurf” as he was known by his family and friends, was employed by Hersey Chocolate Company.  He greatly enjoyed fast cars, playing spades, Bid Whist and chess. Smurf was known for always dressing to impress.

Smurf was greeted into Heaven by his grandfather, William Marshall McCarthy, Sr. and his grandmothers, Lucy Becks Jones and Claire McCarthy.   

Left to cherish his memory is his daughter, Ja’Niyah Jones of Waynesboro; mother, Fellecia Mae Jones of Verona; father, William “Billy” McCarthy of Ohio,; siblings: Gerald A. Jones of Staunton, Jerome A. Jones of Verona, Kenny McCarthy of Waynesboro, Timothy Harris of Maryland, and Shanelle Diggs of Maryland; nieces and nephews: Jerome Jones, Jr., Hannah Jones, Michelle Jones, Jaylin Jones, Kamal McCarthy; great nephew, Jerome Jones, III; as well as extended family and friends. 

A funeral service will be conducted at 1pm on Thursday, March 2, 2023 at Charlton and Groome Funeral Home.

Active pallbearers will be: Tayshawn Strother, Mike Wilberger, Wayne Barbour, Butch Chandler, Yuma Williams, Jason Banks, Ross Sheffey, Robert Drumheller, Dapri Flipping

The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

Burial will follow at Augusta Memorial Park.
