Sherri Strader, 45, of Vesuvius, passed away Sunday, February 12, 2017.

She was born March 29, 1971 in Chicago, Illinois.

Sherri Strader was an angel among us. She spent her life serving others as a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a daughter, a friend and an EMS provider. Her passion to help others was first ignited when she took a position at Stonewall Jackson Hospital, in the lab, as a lab technician. Soon after she found herself joining the Fairfield Volunteer Rescue Squad where she held several offices and began taking EMS classes. Sherri’s next step in her EMS career was with the Lexington Life Saving Crew where she served as the 1st Lieutenant and Captain. She was awarded “Crewmember of the Year” recognition on multiple occasions and was instrumental in moving the agency forward with integrating career staff into the system to assure emergency calls were answered. The past 11 years, Sherri has been a dedicated member of the Stuarts Draft Rescue Squad. She obtained her National Registered Paramedic certification and was most proud of her Critical Care Paramedic certification. She had loved to compete at both the District and State levels on the Stuarts Draft Advanced Life Support Team and in the Emergency Vehicle Operations Course competition. Sherri was very knowledgeable in patient care and loved to share her knowledge with everyone who was willing to learn. She was certified instructor in CPR, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, International Trauma Life Support and Pediatric Emergency Assessment and Stabilization courses. She taught classes at the Central Shenandoah EMS Council as an adjunct instructor as well as precepting and mentoring new providers and all others who were fortunate enough to be on her team. Sherri touched so many lives in the communities she served – her patients, her family, and her friends.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Jamie McCloud.

Sherri is survived by her husband, Justin Strader of Vesuvius; son, Joseph Vance his wife, Charity Vance of Stuarts Draft; daughter, Brieanna Vance of Uniontown, Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Jackson Vance and Memphis Vance; father Rinno McCloud of Logan, WV; mother Lana McCloud of Logan, WV; sister, Lori Baker of Logan, WV; as well as aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
