Sherman Victor Edwards

Sherman Victor Edwards, age 84, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 8, 2019 at his home in Fishersville.

He was born September 2, 1935 in Bristol, Virginia.

He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree and retired in 1993 from Hunter Engineering where he was employed as a Computer Technician.

Sherman served in the U.S. Air force and retired after 24 years of service as Senior Master Sergeant. He was significant in establishing communications during the Vietnam War between the officers and the President of the United States.  He earned many meritorious awards during service to his country.

At the time of his death, he was an active member of Midway Bible Baptist Church.  In prior years, Sherman served as deacon and adult Sunday school teacher at Staunton Alliance Church and Ridgeview Baptist Church, Stuarts Draft. He was also a member of the Gideons Society and active in Evangelism.

As a young man he sang and played guitar in a band. In his later years he employed these same talents for his church. He held a black belt in Karate and was employed as a sensei in Japan while stationed there. He was also the author of an extensive genealogy on the Edwards family.

He was preceded in death by his parents Emory Victor Edwards and Lora Catherine Newman Edwards; beloved daughter Kathey Breeden; brothers Bob Edwards and Buddy Edwards; sisters Phyllis, Kathline, Margaret, Louella, and Barbara Anne.

He is survived by his wife Ivy B. Edwards; his children Sherman V. Edwards, Jr. and Lora Jo-Ann Parcham and her husband Jerry Parcham; grandchildren Jason Harold, Ivy Harold, Kayla Harold, Brandon Edwards, and Krystalin Sable Simoneaux; great-grandchildren Kayley Harold and Keegan Harold; fond uncle of many nieces and nephews.

Family will receive friends Thursday, December 12, 2019 from 11am to 1pm at Charlton and Groome Funeral Home, 619 Lifecore Dr. Fishersville, VA 22939 until time of service at 1pm with Pastor Richard Owen officiating. Entombment will follow at Augusta Memorial Park, Waynesboro, VA
