Sharon Collins Obituary

Sharon Elaine Collins, 72, of Waynesboro passed away surrounded by her family on Sunday, April 9, 2023 at Augusta Health.  Sharon was born on August 15, 1950 in Waynesboro, a daughter of the late Carl Ligget Collins and Louise Marie Thompson.

Sharon was lovingly known by many names: “The Bag Lady”, “Shernie”, and “Nana Booskie”.  She retired from GE/Genicom and Neuman Aluminum.  Sharon greatly enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her granddaughters and scratching lottery tickets. She loved her animals: the squirrels, ducks, heron, and dogs, Ollie and Cisco and her love bug, Peppy Juice. Sharon had many friends on Facebook and will be missed by all who knew her.  She was a one of a kind person and she never failed to give a compliment.

Sharon leaves behind her precious family: her “daughter”, Maria Hurt and her husband, Jeremy; three granddaughters, Kaila Marie, Lilly Mae, and Aliya Starr Hurt; grandson, Joe Hurt; her beloved sister, Cindy Meeks; nephew, Scott Meeks and wife, Stephanie and their children, Jordan and Ryan; her most loving and caring niece, Dana Collins Perdue and her fiancé, Tim Fox and her two children Brianna and Jake Perdue; nephew, Richie Collins and wife, Robyn; niece, Vivian; niece, Stephanie Thweatt and her husband, Jason and their children, Darrin, Jesco “Skittles”, and Sophie; half-siblings, Lisa and J.R.; as well as extended family and friends.

A celebration of life service will be conducted at 2pm on Thursday, April 13, 2023 at Valley Covenant Church, 291 Hopeman Pkwy, Waynesboro, VA 22980 with Pastor Jerry Steele officiating.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the church.
