Scott Eldred Lear, 80, passed away on Wednesday, May 6, 2026. Born in Jerome, on September 13, 1945 to the late Louis Lear and Cordula Miller Lear.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon Polk Lear; his daughter-in-law, Annette Lewis Lear; and his brothers, Atville and Sherwood Lear.
He is survived by his children, Kevin and wife, Cara, Anissa and husband, Matt, Joey and wife, Gloria; his grandchildren, Darden, Kerington, Aiden, Marshall, Brian, and Michael, and three step grandchildren; his brothers, Jarvis and Thurston; his sister, Serena Ryman and husband John; along with his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Gayle and husband Stanley Wellard and sister-in-law Betty Lear.
Scott graduated from Stonewall Jackson High School in 1964. He proudly served in the Army National Guard and was employed by Columbia Gas as an FCC licensed electronic technician until his retirement.
Scott was among the group of men who helped establish the Mt. Jackson Little League baseball program and assisted in building the town’s first baseball field in town. He later played a key role in promoting the start of high school baseball in Shenandoah County. For many years, he was Little League baseball coach, dedicating his time to encouraging young players both on and off the field. A UVA sports fan, Scott enjoyed following and supporting University of Virginia athletics throughout the years.
A man with a strong persuasion and convictions, he taught his family the importance of protecting and helping those less fortunate without seeking recognition. Although his health was in decline for many years, he valued his friendships and would be sadden if he received news that someone was not well.
Scott was a member of both Grace United Church of Christ and First Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Mt. Jackson Lions Club for many years.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Darlene Hamilton, Sheila McClish, and Gentiva Hospice for their care, compassion, and support.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, May 14, 2026 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Shenandoah Community Center, 6044 Main St, Mt. Jackson, with sharing memories beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Family and friends mourn his passing and celebrate a life well lived.
