Rosa Jane Darcus Blakey “Sis”, 84, of Stuarts Draft, Virginia, passed away peacefully at her home on October 15, 2025, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, and she will be greatly missed.
Rosa was born on July 8, 1941 to Roy and Frances (Lewis) Darcus in Stuarts Draft, Virginia. She was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School in Staunton, and she completed nursing school at Waynesboro Community Hospital becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse. She was a third generation, life-long member of Hatton Pond Baptist Church in Stuarts Draft.
After marrying, she moved to Pottstown, Pennsylvania with her husband, Joseph Blakey. She lived for over 30 years in Pennsylvania where she worked as a nurse. She was also an excellent cook and ran a small catering business.
Rosa returned to Virginia in 1990 to care for her father and brother. She continued her nursing career, caring in-home for patients with Parkinsons, ALS, and other life-altering conditions.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Frances (Lewis) Darcus, father, Roy Darcus, and brother, John Darcus. Rosa is survived by one daughter, Frances Blakey-Eddins and her husband, Kenneth, also of Stuarts Draft, and two granddaughters, Erica and Amara Eddins, both of Richmond, Virginia.
Rosa will be most remembered for her outgoing personality. She loved to laugh and have fun, and brightened up the room whenever she entered. When she was around, there was never a dull moment.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm, Monday, October 20, 2025 at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 415 Augusta Street, Staunton, Virginia conducted by the Rev. Michael Anthony Turner, Pastor.
The family will receive friends at the church for one hour prior to the service.
Private burial will be held at Augusta Memorial Park, Waynesboro on a later date.
