Ronald Karalus, 79, of Staunton, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 2, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 6, 1946, in Dunkirk, New York. Ronald was affectionately known to many as Ron, Jaja, Arnie, and Gomez.
Ron proudly served his country in the United States Navy, spending two years in the Navy Reserves and two years on active duty, including service in Vietnam from 1965 to 1967.
Ron was married to his beloved wife, Virginia Karalus, and recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on December 21. Together, they raised three children: Ronald Jr., Michelle, and Wendy. Ron worked for many years as a pressman at various companies. In 1982, the family moved to Manassas, Virginia, where Ron developed a passion for furniture refinishing, a hobby that showcased his skill and craftsmanship.
Throughout his life, Ron was known for his sense of humor, kindness, and strong work ethic. He greatly enjoyed spending time with his family, playing cards, traveling, and camping. Ron is also survived by five grandchildren, Paul, Shelsea, Emily, Mark, and Amelia;one great-grandson, James; and several nieces and nephews.
Ron will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him. His memory will live on in the hearts of family and friends.
A graveside service will be conducted at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
Arrangements have been entrusted at Charlton and Groome Funeral Home in Fishersville, Virginia.
