Nathaniel Joseph Radford, Jr. Obituary

Nathaniel J. Radford, Jr., peacefully transitioned at his home with his wife by his side on Friday, October 8, 2021, which was also the 40th anniversary of his sobriety.

He was born in Rhodell, WV, on April 6, 1949 to the late Nathaniel J. Radford, Sr. (Coal Miner) and Frances E. (Wylie) Radford (Dancer), who survives at the age of 93. Nathaniel was the second of six children. At the age of 15, he along with his family, relocated to Washington D.C., as a result of his father writing to Senator Byrd wanting a better life for his family, and the Senator responded by giving his father a job at the government printing office. He graduated from Eastern High School (DC) and attended University of District Columbia. In 1974, Nathaniel tried out for the Washington Redskins and was one of the last to be cut.

Nate grew up in Emanuel Holiness Church of Tommy Creek, WV and First Baptist Church of Rhodell, WV. He professed a hope in Christ and was a faithful member of Life Step Baptist Ministry (MD).  After marrying the love of his life, Re’gene (Mildred Brown) on March 8, 1968, they resided in Washington D.C., moved to Maryland, where Nate began his trucking career; owning and operating his own company and later moving to the mountains in Virginia. Nate drove over millions of miles before retiring in 2010 and was also the CEO oF Madamoiselles-Lelia et-Re’gene for 7 years.

Nathaniel was preceded in death by his father, Nathaniel J. Radford, Sr., and brother, Randy R. Radford, Sr.

He leaves to cherish a loving wife of 53 years; daughter, KaSandra Radford Ellis (David); son, Derek Jahmal (Rhonda); two sisters, Violet Shelton (Jerome) and Carolyn Radford; two brothers, Perry (Betty) and Robert Radford all of Maryland; five grandchildren: Richard R. Jackson, Jr., Trevin Jamal Ellis (Yazmin), Najja Ellis Ogunshola (Tunde), Derek Jahmal Radford, and Delano Joseph Radford; five great-grandchildren: Natalie and Lillie Jackson, Sophia Ogunshola, Nathaniel David Jackson, and Jamila Ellis; a loving aunt, Clarissa Dawkins and special cousins, Marvin Radford, Constance Adams, Lillie McGowan, Pamelia Lawson, Robert Dawkins, Tennell Radford, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
