Naomi Betsy (Kanagy) Shadis

Naomi Betsy (Kanagy) Shadis, 73, of Waynesboro passed away on Saturday, December 24, 2022 at Augusta Health. She was born in Stuarts Draft on January 17, 1949, a daughter of the late Jonas and Molly (Hostetler) Kanagy.

Naomi worked as a LPN for 35 years. She was a very ingenious and talented artist, painter, crafter, and gardener; turning many people’s trash into treasures. Naomi was a friend to many and will be truly missed by all who knew her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Daniel Kanagy and sisters, Sylvia Coffey and Esther Nuckoles.

Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of 23 years, John P. Shadis; her sons, Matthew Harris and wife, Tina of Raphine and Mark Harris of Stuarts Draft; step daughters: Pamela Jean Barghoorn, IL, Michelle Jenkins of Waynesboro, and Charity Lynn Spencer and husband, Bret, of IL ; brother, Thomas Kanagy and wife, Sally of Stuarts Draft; sisters, Salina Smiley of VA and Ruth Gascho and husband, Dave of NE;  good friend and brother-in-law, Homer Coffey; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

A memorial service will be conducted at 4pm on Monday, January 2, 2023 at Stuarts Draft Baptist Church, 2517 Stuarts Draft Hwy, Stuarts Draft, VA, with Pastor Billy Coffey officiating.
