Nancy (Hughes) Clayborne

Nancy Hughes Clayborne, 98, passed away on Saturday, February 8, 2025.

Nancy was born in Bluefield, WV to the late Myrtle and Eddie Hughes. She was a member of the Mullens High School graduating class of 1944 in Mullens, WV, and she attended Longwood State Teachers College in Farmville, VA, graduating in 1948. She returned to Mullens and taught in various Wyoming County schools including Baileysville, Herndon, and Mullens Grade School until her retirement in 1989.

Nancy was active in many clubs and organizations including Eastern Star, Woodland Garden Club, and the United Methodist Church. She also enjoyed get togethers with her 1944 MHS classmates.

 In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, John William Clayborne, as well as her sister: Inez Platt, Francis Dillon, and Catherine Abernathy.

She is survived by her daughters, Jill Robinson Wall (Keith) of Greensboro, NC and Jennifer Robinson Rice (James) of Nellysford, VA; grandchildren: Eric Wall (Chelsea) of Laurel MD, Nathan Wall (Kathleen)of Charlotte, NC, Jackson Rice of West Palm Beach, FL, and Jennings Rice of Los Angeles, CA; great grandchildren: Wilder, Ever, and Rory.

A family memorial service is being planned for a later date.
