METRO OLESKA, 97, our beloved father, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday morning, May 1, 2021. He made his home at The Legacy of North Augusta.
Metro was born on October 19, 1923, a son to John and Anna Oleksa in Macungie, PA.
He graduated from Allentown High School where he took machine shop and was then called into the service in The United States Army. He was stationed at Woodrow Wilson Army Hospital, and was the last soldier to leave that post.
Following his WWII service, he was the first employee hired at Industrial Machine Works, Inc. by Bob Harvel. His career there was 37 years, 1947 – 1984. He served as President and Chairman of the Board from 1971 – 1984 when he retired.
He was a member of First Baptist Church in Staunton.
He married his bride, Alice Gosnell on June 7, 1947. She preceded him in death after 71 years together on December 2, 2018 and now they are together again.
He is survived by his four daughters and sons-in-laws, Peggy (Steve) Riley, Karen (Mark) Richardson, Beth (Jim) Arehart, and Kathy (Curtis) Dillow; Grandchildren; Nicole Riley, Thomas (Chelle) Riley, Ashley Riley, Jason (Marsha) Arehart, Angela (Evan) Wirt, Justin Arehart, Kristen (John) Thomas, Megan (Phillip) Kauffman and Cody Dillow. He has nine great grandchildren, and two great-great granddaughters, and another arriving soon. He is also survived by his two sisters from Allentown, PA, Mary Radio and Kathryn Solan, and many loved nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Doris Oleksa and his brothers-in-law, John Radio and Dr. John Solan.
His greatest joy was playing with his great-grandchildren, and playing golf at The Waynesboro Country Club, where he frequently shot his age.
The family would like to extend sincere gratitude to the staff at The Legacy of North Augusta for their loving care of our father.
The family will receive friends from 12:00pm to 1:00pm on May 5, 2021 at Charlton and Groome Funeral Home Fishersville and where a funeral service will be held 1:00pm in the Chapel.
Interment will follow at Augusta Memorial Park Waynesboro with Military Honors.
