Melissa Meeks, 66, of Waynesboro, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 24, 2026 at the University of Virginia Medical Center, Charlottesville. She was born June 28, 1959 in Petersburg, West Virginia, daughter of late Clarence Ditton and the late Ada Thorne Ditton.
Melissa was a graduate of Waynesboro High School, class of 1977. She was an administrative assistant with Waynesboro Public Schools and a proud member of Edward Avenue Baptist Church. She loved the Lord and her family and spent time doing VBS for her church. She was devoted to her children and grandkids as well as all their friends, whom she claimed as her own.
The family would like to express their special thanks to Shelby Jones (The Flower Girl – Flower shop) and to Pastor Gary May and Edward Avenue Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her sisters, Millie Campbell (Bob) and Myra Wiseman (Ronnie).
Survivors include her husband of 47 years, Lawrence “Larry” Meeks; her children, Zac Meeks of Waynesboro and Bailey Meeks (Sims) of Charlottesville; her grandchildren, Meliah Duncan, 17, of Charlottesville and Mariah Meeks-Sims, 13, of Charlottesville; her brother, Mike Ditton of Spartanburg, South Carolina and a number of nieces and nephew. Also surviving is her best friend since 6th grade, Betty Headly.
The family suggests memorial contributions to Edward Avenue Baptist Church, 222 Edward Ave., Waynesboro, VA 22980 or to a Go Fund Me that will posted for the family.
There will be a Funeral Service at 3:00 pm, Wednesday, April 8, 2026 at Edward Avenue Baptist Church, Waynesboro, conducted by Pastor Gary May.
