Matthew Scott Coiner, 35, of Waynesboro passed away on Sunday, April 3, 2022. He was born in Washington, DC on March 1, 1987 and was adopted as an infant by John R. and Linda L Coiner.
Matthew grew up in Waynesboro and in Stuarts Draft. He was a graduate of Stuarts Draft High School (Class of 2006) and attended The Virginia School of Massage (2014). Throughout the years he worked many jobs in the Waynesboro area and was known and loved by his coworkers and patrons of the places he worked. Many knew him from his time working at Outback Steakhouse, Taco Bell, Cook-Out, Batteries-Plus, and most recently, he was employed by Ollie’s in Waynesboro.
Matthew loved life and found joy spending time with his friends and family. He was blessed to have an incredible circle of friends in the community where he lived. Through gaming he also built great friendships that extended around the world. Matthew was known for his huge smile and his quick wit -- he found humor in every situation, and his laughter was contagious. He loved music, especially sharing it with his friends, and he loved to sing.
Matthew was preceded in death by his father, John R. Coiner in 2018 and his mother, Linda L. Coiner in 2019.
Matthew is survived by his three sons, Aiden Scott (12), Silas Alexander (9), and Marcellus Anthony (5); by his sister, Robbin (Coiner) Jensen and her husband, Erik Jensen and their son, Ryder of Mesa, AZ and his sister, Tina (Coiner) Charles and her husband, Bart Charles of Richmond, VA; his nephews, Luke Charles, Roman Charles, and Jonah Charles; his niece, Micayla (Charles) Fisk and her husband, Michael Fisk and their daughter, Vera Charlotte Fisk and his niece, Gabrielle Charles; along with aunts, uncles, and many cousins. Matthew was also blessed to have an incredible bonus family with Alfred and Angie Toole and their five sons -- they were a great source of love, guidance, and mentoring in his life.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 24th at Coyner Springs Park where family and friends will gather to share favorite memories, stories, and sorrow over losing Matthew too soon -- along with a healthy supply of the laughter he brought us.
Matthew's cremation and the scattering of ashes will be held privately by his family.
