Mary A. “Sugar” Ellis, 76, of Stuarts Draft, went to be with her Lord on Thursday, July 5, 2018, at Augusta Health.  She was born in Cheverly, Maryland, September 13, 1941, daughter of the late Louise Adrian Cochran and Edna Mae Dabney Cochran.

“Sugar” supported her husband through his 20-year U. S. Navy career and she later retired from K-Mart and Publix.  She enjoyed playing Bingo, was an avid Dale Earnhardt and NASCAR racing fan and was a wonderful cook for her family and friends.  A very giving person, she was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother, who loved spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her entire family.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by three sisters, Doris Tayman, Shirley Fitzgerald and Joyce Wesley and one brother, Floyd Cochran.

Survivors include her husband, Harry William Ellis; two daughters, Belinda Lee Wallace and her husband, Steve of Stuarts Draft and Dee E. Leach of Waynesboro; one son, Michael D. Ellis and his wife, Traci of Stuarts Draft; three brothers, Horace Cochran of Fredericksburg, William Cochran and wife, Dale of Spotsylvania and Alfred Cochran and wife, Ruby of Stuarts Draft; seven grandchildren, Chad S. Wallace and wife, Brandi, Shawn M. Wallace, William Tyler Wallace and wife, Amanda, Jessica L. Leach, William Dylan Leach and fiancé, Angelique Skawinski, Lauren E. Ellis and fiancé, Brett Haymon and Trenton M. Ellis and six great-grandchildren, Colin, Kayleigh, Cole, Olive, Lelynd and Liam.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, July 9, 2018 in the Chapel of Charlton and Groome Funeral Home, 619 Lifecore Drive, Fishersville, conducted by Pastor Levi Brown.  Burial will follow in Augusta Memorial Park, Waynesboro. Serving as Active Pallbearers will be Chad Wallace, Shawn Wallace, Tyler Wallace, Dylan Leach, Trenton Ellis, Brett Haymon, Darryl Benson and Scott Ruppel.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4-6 PM, Sunday, July 8, 2018.
