Martha May (Mitchell) Thacker

Martha May Thacker,  of Stuarts Draft, VA (May 20th, 1931-February 13th, 2023) 91 years old, passed into eternal glory peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on this day of our Lord, February 13th, 2023 .

She is survived by her three daughters, Melissa Hughes (Tony), Kitty Wood, Judy Geiman and her one son, Kevin L. Tichenor; her five grandchildren: Christopher Geiman, Denise Robertson, Edward Geiman, Jeffrey Wood and Heather Pike (Luke); her 11 great grandchildren: Kaleb Lundsford (Kaitlin), Brody Lundsford (Kari), Luke Heath and Hailey Heath, Aaron Meek (Kyra), Tyler Wood, Kaitlyn Wood, John Geiman, Layla Geiman, Gabe Geiman and Samuel Geiman and her three great, great grandchildren: Zoe Lundsford, Marlee Lundsdord and Waylon Lundsford. 

Martha Thacker, formerly Martha Tichenor, was born in West Virginia in 1931. One of six siblings, sadly Martha was the last of all her brothers and sisters who preceded her in death. In her early years, she married and soon had a family of four children to raise.

Martha worked and eventually retired from Genesco after 25 years of work.

During her retirement years, Martha loved to live life to the fullest by spending her waking hours dancing with friends and listening to some old time country and bluegrass. Nothing made her happier than being with her friends and family laughing, cooking and dancing. Martha was known to cut a rug on more than one occasion. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren and her great grandchildren who loved her dearly.

 Martha was active in her local church over the years. Yet, she also loved to gamble whenever she could make it up to West Virginia where she could be found at one of the slot machines with a smile on her face waiting to hit the next big jackpot. Martha enjoyed life to fullest each and every day. The secret to her long life she once said was “keep moving and don’t stop.”

Her life will be celebrated in private with immediate family members only.
