Lisa Margheim-Cox Obituary

Lisa Ann Margheim-Cox passed away April 22, 2022, at the age of 56, surrounded by her family who will continue to honor her legacy by living their lives to the fullest.  The battle with serious medical issues in recent years showed her courage in facing life challenges with a smile and positive attitude.  She will be dearly missed. Lisa is survived by her husband, Charles; her Dad and Mom, Mr. and Mrs. Gary Margheim; a brother, Greg; a sister and brother-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. Maurice T. McCarthy, Jr.; three nieces, Jensen Margheim and Ryley Margheim and Rebecca Hale and three nephews, Grayson Margheim, Aaron McCarthy and Jonathan McCarthy.  She was preceded in death by her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Harry L. Cox.

Lisa was born to Gary and Mary Ann Margheim in Fort Collins, Colorado on September 9, 1965. As a preemie, weighing 1 pound and 15 ounces at birth, she developed a tenacious desire and capacity for survival just as she did in the last moments of her life.  She graduated as valedictorian of her class in 1983 from Potomac High School in Dumfries, Virginia. From there she chased her dream to help others through the medical field. To that end she received her nursing degree at the University of Virginia, once again as valedictorian of her class. She became a registered nurse and just recently renewed her certification with anticipation of returning to her beloved job. For nearly 20 years she worked at the University’s medical center with tremendous pride in her nursing profession and a kind spirit and patience that made everyone feel special just by her presence. She was a caregiver at heart and her personality was contagious to everyone she met.

She met Charlie in August 1987. She was on a date and Charlie was their waiter.  She married Charlie Cox on August 3, 1991 and in a special occasion recently renewed their wedding vows on ther 30th anniversary.  They lived in Waynesboro, Virginia where they enjoyed each other and the simple pleasures of life--church, love of pets, particularly black labs, breakfast at the Waffle House, and volunteer work.  All in all, they were a very integral  and important part of the community.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M., Thursday, April 28, 2022 at Bridge Christian Church, 1275 Goose Creek Rd., Fishersville, Virginia, conducted by Pastor Todd Brown. Interment will follow in Augusta Memorial Park, Waynesboro.  The service will be live streamed and  will start at 12:30 pm (30 minutes before the service.) Please see the link below.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M., Wednesday, April 27, 2022, at Charlton and Groome Funeral Home, 619 Lifecore Dr., Fishersville.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to the Augusta Regional SPCA, P.O. Box 2014, Staunton, VA 24402.
