Lela M. Knootz (Luzier) Noel

Lela M. (Luzier) Koontz Noel, 95, of Waynesboro, passed away on Wednesday, July 5, 2023, her 95th birthday, at Augusta Nursing and Rehab in Fishersville. She was born in WV on July 5, 1928, a daughter of the late John and Alice (Bowen) Luzier.

Lela graduated from Thomas High School in WV and worked as a cashier at Indian River State College until her retirement. She was a former member of the Daughter’s of the American Revolution. Playing chess, working on puzzle books, and reading were a few of her favorite hobbies.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers; four sisters, and her son, James J. Koontz, Jr.

Left to cherish her memory are her three children:  Sandy Wyant, Sharon Stogdale, and John Koontz; six grandchildren: John Koontz (Tina), Greg Koontz (Jennifer), Thomas Wyant (Martha), Debbie Wyant, James Wyant (Ollie), and Lee Stogdale (Shawn); 12 great grandchildren; six great great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Lela’s wishes were for her body to be donated to science. Her family will have a graveside service for her at a later date in Thornrose Cemetery in Staunton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her memory to Legacy Hospice by mail at 650 Peter Jefferson Parkway, Ste 310, Charlottesville, VA 22911.
