Lawrence “Larry” Libeu, 80, of Verona, VA, passed away on December 17, 2022, at his home in Verona.
Larry was born in Brea, CA, to Mathew and Elizabeth Libeu on November 21, 1942. He graduated from Lakewood High School in Lakewood, CA. Larry served in municipal public works administration throughout his career, with the majority of his service at Eastern Municipal Water District in Riverside County, CA. He was a widely recognized water rights advocate and participated in many related non-profit organizations to ensure water quality and access in the arid southwest United States.
In retirement, Larry was a mediocre golfer who favored the mulligan and footwedge. He loved working in his yard, eating out, solving puzzles of all kinds, going to the movies, and beating family members at cribbage and gin rummy. Larry sang for many years in the Harmoneers community chorale group in Hemet, CA, was a member and elder at Grace Presbyterian Church in Temecula, CA, and was loved by fellow travelers in the Temecula Alcoholics Anonymous community. He was a compassionate and responsive friend to many people in times of need over the years, opening his home as a place to stay, meet, eat, and be together. His quick wit was readily shared with loved ones and strangers alike. Larry was a committed charcoal grill cook, specializing in baby back ribs, pork tenderloin, and his go-to turkey burgers.
Larry is preceded in death by his parents, Mathew and Elizabeth Libeu, and his former wife, Cheryl Walcher.
