Karen Diane Smiley Hinkle, age 64, of Staunton passed away on Monday, February 10, 2020 at UVA in Charlottesville.
She was born on July 17, 1955 in Bolling AFB, Washington, D.C.
Karen was the daughter of the late William Guy Smiley, Jr. and Dorotha Mae Hicklin Smiley.
She was a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School – Class of 1973. She worked at Hays Chevorlet, at Good News Mazda she was the office manager, and after 15 years, she retired from Commonwealth Promotional as a bookkeeper.
Karen was an avid reader, loved music, concerts, dancing, scrabble, on-line games and working. She had a soft spot for all felines.
She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, and her best friend, Karen Fitzgerald.
She is survived by her husband John Michael Hinkle; her three children, Andrew M. Hinkle (Drew) and his wife Kim Hardy, Jeremy W. Hinkle (Jims) and his partner Joseph T. Clemmer, and Molly E. Hinkle; three step-grandchildren, Kurt Mavis, Christian Mavis, and Cameron Mavis; she is also survived by several cousins, her sisters-in-law Fran Wright, Alice Hinkle and Mary Garber and their families.
Karen was a loving mother and wife; she was a loyal friend, a gentle soul, and she had a great sense of humor.
In lieu of flowers, those who wish may offer a contribution to the family.
Family will receive friends and family Sunday, February 16, 2020 from 4- 6 pm at Charlton and Groome Funeral Home, 618 Lifecore Dr. Fishersville. A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, February 17, 2020 at 1 pm at Charlton and Groome Funeral Home, officiated by William T. Hinkle.
