Joseph Alex Dillard, Jr., 64, of Waynesboro, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 31, 2024 at Augusta Health in Fishersville. He was born at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville on September 19, 1960, a son of Ruby Diggs Dillard and the late Joseph Alex Dillard, Sr.
Joseph graduated from Waynesboro High School in 1979. Following high school, he proudly served in the United States Army as a Motor Transport Operator from July 24, 1979 and received an Army Service and Overseas Service Ribbon. He was honorable discharged on July 18, 1985. Joseph began work as a Production Operator with Virginia Panel on May 31, 1986 and retired on December 22, 2011 after 28 years of service. In his spare time, he loved to listening to R &B music and “ Oldies but Goodies” watching BET, playing basketball, and he was a faithful viewer of News at 6. Joseph was an avid fan of the LA Lakers and the Las Vegas Raders.
In addition to his mother, survivors include his children, Jamice Dillard and Alonzo Dillard and wife, Nancy; 10 grandchildren: Malik, Frank, Jaishawna, Zora, Kristian Grace, Alesia, Victoria, Jaden, Kayla, Trayvon, and Trenton; three great grandchildren: Naevah, Zaviana and Zora; sisters, Diana Hart, Wanda Dillard, and Rhonda Alexander and husband, Richard, all of Waynesboro; as well as extended family and friends.
A memorial service will be conducted at 1pm on Friday, January 10, 2025 at Union Baptist Church of Afton.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 8, 2025 from 5pm until 7pm at Charlton and Groome Funeral Home in Fishersville.
The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to the Veterans Administration, especially nurses, Rhonda and Debra, for their dedication, support, and for taking care of Joseph for 11 years. A special thank you to the individuals from American Care Plus, AMDYESS Home Care nurses, and to family and friends for their support and time taking care of Bustie.
