John E. Wood, III

John E. Wood, III, 73, of Crimora, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, July 23, 2026 at his home. He was born in Charlottesville on October 12, 1952, a son of the late Virginia Florine (Kirby) Wilbon and John Emmett Wood, II.

John was the owner and operator of J.W. Eclectic since 1978. He also proudly served his community as a volunteer firefighter with Grottoes Fire Department, Rockingham Fire Department and later retired after 15 years of service with Waynesboro Fire Department. John attended Lighthouse Baptist Church. His hobbies included camping, going on cruises with his family, Vacationing to St. Maarten, and spending time cooking and sharing meals with family; he enjoyed the noise of family being around him. To his family, he was a man of few words, but when he spoke you respected his word. John will be remembered for being social and for his very community driven heart.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 55 years, Carolyn Sue (Wolfe) Wood; children: Anthony Wood (Geri Clark) and Rhonda Pryor; grandchildren: Ricky Vazquez, Tyler Colvin (Amber), Corey Colvin (Valerie); great grandchildren: Annistyn, Harlyn, Charley, Zeke, and Olive; sister, Debbie Valenti (Vincent); special niece, Samantha Showalter (Dennis); great nieces and nephews: Garrett, Bethany, Jackson, and Cailyn Showalter; dear friend, Wanda Ferguson; pets, Annie and Winston as well as extended family and friends.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

The family wishes to welcome friends to John and Carolyn’s home anytime to share memories and condolences.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in John’s memory to his church, Lighthouse Baptist, 521 James Ave, Waynesboro, VA 22980.

The family wishes to express a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Adanna Akujuo and her team at UVA for their compassionate care of John and his family.
