John W. Wimmer

   Johnnie Walter “John” Wimmer, 88, of Stuarts Draft, Virginia, passed away on Thursday, January 5, 2023 at The Meadows, Stuarts Draft Retirement Community’s Assisted Living. He was born on June 7, 1934 in Narrows, Virginia, the oldest son of the late Raymond Ceward Wimmer and Ina (Warner) Wimmer.

   John is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Doris Graham Kelly Wimmer of The Stuarts Draft Retirement Community, Stuarts Draft, Virginia; his son, Johnny Oscar Wimmer and wife, Pamela ; granddaughter, Bridget Chapman; great-grandchildren: Caden Chapman, Annabelle White, and Daniel White; brothers, Calvin Wimmer and Danny Wimmer; sisters: Loretta Brown, Sara Agnes Callahan, Brenda Hilton, and Carol Rebecca White  and husband, Tennis; brothers-in-law, George R. Kelly and Stuart Temple Jones.

   John was a Navy Veteran having served aboard the Battleship New Jersey during the Korean War conflict from 1952-1956 and inactive from 1956-1960. He retired from BASF Corporation, Fibers Division, in Research and Development in Williamsburg, Virginia. He lived many years in Hampton and following retirement, John opened his own business, JW’s Home Repair, where he accepted jobs in small home repairs for 16 years. He and Doris were members of the Mid-Atlantic Roadrunners Camping Group where they made many friends and toured much of the eastern half of the United States and eastern Canada.

   John was an ordained Deacon and Elder at First Presbyterian Church in Hampton. For the past 16 years, he was an active member of Tinkling Spring Presbyterian Church and its Homebuilders Sunday School Class.

   A funeral service with military honors will be conducted at Tinkling Spring Presbyterian Church, 30 Tinkling Spring Road, Fishersville, Virginia, on Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at 2pm with The Rev. Patrick Ryan officiating.

   A graveside services will be conducted by The Rev. Nancy Hobbs on Thursday January 12, 2023 at 2pm at Lee Memorial Gardens, 1986 Hickory Circle Road, Pennington Gap, Virginia.

   The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 10, 2023 from 5pm until 7pm at Charlton and Groome Funeral Home, 619 Lifecore Drive, Fishersville, Virginia.

   In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Tinkling Spring Presbyterian Church or a favorite charity.
