John William Foote, 92, of Fishersville passed away on Sunday, March 6, 2022 at the University of Virginia Medical Center. He was born in Nottoway County, Virginia, a son of the late Dwight Adrian and Elsie Pugh (Smith) Foote.
John proudly served in the United States Army. He retired from DuPont on May 1, 1985 after 25 years of service and later worked for Robert’s Oxygen Service Company. John was a member Fishersville United Methodist Church and was a member of the Waynesboro First Aid Crew. Hunting and fishing were a few of his favorite hobbies.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Ann Foote Hansbrough and his step-daughter, Suzette Colon.
Survivors include his loving wife, Barbara Blakemore Foote; son, William “Billy” Foote; step-daughter, Pamela Stevens and husband, Kenny; siblings: Dwight Foote, Shirley Foote Eye, and Elsie Foote Merica; grandsons, Trevor Foote and wife, Christina and Tyler Foote; great grandchildren: Taylor Foote and Bryson and Cohen Foote; special friend and caregiver, Tabby Cox; as well as extended family and friends.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11am on Friday, March 11, 2022 at Fishersville United Methodist Church, 1600 Jefferson Highway, Fishersville, VA, with Pastor Peter Choi officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the church cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be William “Billy” Foote, Trevor Foote, Tyler Foote, Benjamin Coursey, Holland Coursey, and Isaac Coursey.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in John’s memory to your local SPCA and/or the Staunton Augusta Rescue Squad, 1601 N. Coalter Street, Staunton, VA 24401.
