Janet M. Lewis

Janet (Miller) Lewis, 77, of Fishersville Virginia graduated to her heavenly home on Thursday, December 15, 2022. 

Janet was one of those rare individuals who genuinely loved everyone as if they were family from the moment they met.  She was empathic and unselfishly gave to anyone she felt was in need, leaving a legacy of compassion that will not be soon forgotten.  

She was born on June 18, 1945, in Rockingham County, Virginia and was the daughter of the late Elwood Roy Miller and Wilda Mae (DePoy) Miller.

Janet is survived by her husband of 59 years, William Eugene Lewis.   Throughout these 59 years, they bonded most over their deep love of family and during the most recent years have especially enjoyed spoiling their great granddaughter, Karmah Lewis.  

 They have three daughters: Karen Kehoe and her husband, Kevin and Amy Lewis of Waynesboro Virginia and Joan Whetzel and her husband, Scott of Harvest, Alabama.  They also have five grandchildren: Matthew Lewis of Waynesboro, Virginia, Erin Gambee and her husband, Talon of Acworth, Georgia, Holly Butler and her husband, Matthew of Suffolk, Virginia, Will Whetzel and his wife, Bethany of Northport, Alabama and Liam Kehoe of Staunton, Virginia.

Janet is also survived by her brother, Ronnie Miller and his wife, Linda of Fishersville, Virginia.  Ronnie & Janet were always close, and often shared many fond memories of shenanigans throughout their childhood.

Janet graduated from Middle River High School.  Janet was a telephone operator for Waynesboro-Clifton Forge Telephone Company and retired from the Medical Records department at the Woodrow Wilson Rehabilitation Center.  Janet was also a member of Good News Ministries in Staunton Virginia.

Visitation will be held from 4:30pm-6:00pm on Monday, December 19, 2022, at the Charlton and Groome Funeral Home, located at 619 Lifecore Dr in Fishersville.   A service will be held at the same location immediately following the visitation.  A brief burial service will be held at the Augusta Memorial Park Cemetery, located at 1775 Old Goose Creek Rd in Waynesboro on Wednesday, December 21st, 2022.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at the Preston Yancey Fire and Rescue Squad and Augusta Health for the care provided to Janet.  We would like to thank everyone for the prayers, encouragement and food provided during this time as we mourn the loss of such a wonderful person. The support has been overwhelming and we cannot begin to express our sincere gratitude.
