James William Smith

James W.  “Bill” Smith, 87, of Stuarts Draft, passed away on Monday, August 28, 2023 at his home. He was born on February 21, 1936, in Mint Spring, a son of the late James and Margaret Smith.

He retired after 25 years of service at DuPont in Waynesboro.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years, Dina M. Smith. He was also preceded in death by his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ernest and Blanche Martinelli.

Bill is survived by his daughter, Debbie Kennedy and husband, Larry; son, Gary W. Smith; three grandchildren: Tara Orndorff and husband, Chris, Chase Kennedy and Caleb Smith; three sisters; Nancy Wilson and her husband, Mack, Goldie Ham and her husband, Robert, and Mary Ann Huffman and her husband, John; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Elmo and Nancy Martinelli; as well as numerous other family members. He is also survived by his best “hunting” partner, Donnie Blackwell.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, September 1, 2023 at Augusta Memorial Park, conducted by his three brother-in-laws. Family and friends will gather at the cemetery for the service.

There will be no formal visitation; those wishing to view and pay their respects may come by the funeral home on Thursday, August 31, 2023 from 12:00 pm until 5:00 pm.
