Jabern Marcus "Jay" Caldwell Obituary

Jabern Marcus Caldwell, 60, of Fishersville, passed away on November 28, 2024. He was born in Williamsburg on October 18, 1964, a son of the late James Carroll Caldwell and Bernice Oliver (Taylor) Caldwell.

The name "Jabern" was given to him as a combination of both his parents names. He was known as “Jay”. Jay graduated from King and Queen County High School. He worked as an assistant manager at Kmart, O’Reilly’s, Bonanza, and a host of other places. Jay was involved in the activities held at Gateway and served as the official Bingo caller. He enjoyed working on car and was fond of his cats, sports, and cooking, spending time with family, friends, and meeting people. Jay was crazy about sneakers and being a sharp dresser and smelling good with his cologne.  He was an avid Dallas Cowboys Fan.

In addition to his parents, Jay was preceded in death by maternal grandmother, Mary Ida Lane; maternal uncle, Clifton Lane and his wife, Katie Lane; paternal uncles, Howard Caldwell and Joe Caldwell; cousins, Dana Lewis and William Lewis.

Survivors include siblings, M’Liss Janette Caldwell and Sylvia Lynn Caldwell Vazquez; niece and nephew, Monica Lynn Vazquez Dean Logan, and Quentin Marcus Caldwell; cousins, Patricia McDonald, and Christopher Lewis; as well as extended family and friends.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2pm on Saturday, January 4, 2025 at Gateway Seniors, 73 Pinnacle Dr., 2nd Floor, Fishersville.

Memorial Contributions may be sent to Jay’s sister, Sylvia L. Vazquez, 75 Pinnacle Dr. Apt. 405, Fishersville, VA, 22939.

The family wishes to express the following heartfelt memories:

“Growing-up, I used to call him Grandpa because he had a patch of grey hair in the center of the top of his head. It was cute. He was my best friend and the best brother one could ever have. We did a lot of things together, including work at the same jobs. We had fun.”

“Roses are Red, Violets are blue. No one could ask for a brother, better than you.”

A special thank you to Tamara Jones and family, KeKe, Esmie, Wendy and Neil, Sarah and Stu, Chrissy, Maggie and George, Crystal, Jamie, and his niece, Monica and her husband, Logan Dean for the friendship, love, and support for Jay and to his family.
