Gerald Parcham Obituary

Gerald John “Jerry” Parcham, 87, of Fishersville, passed away on Tuesday, May 3, 2022 at his home. He was born in Bay City, Michigan on September 6, 1934, a son of the late John Paul and Genevieve (Vilinski) Parcham.

Jerry proudly served in the United States Army obtaining the rank of SP3T and received medals for Expert on Carbine; being a veteran of the Cold War, and a sniper. During the Cold War, Jerry was posted along the Berlin Wall when the “wall” was nothing but a barbed wire fence. German and Russian troops stood face to face with one another across this makeshift barrier. Should the Russians escalate the hostilities, Jerry’s assigned duty was to take out the perpetrator with the knowledge that doing so would start the war in earnest. After serving three years, he was honorably discharged on October 25, 1956 and became a member of the VFW.

Jerry was an avid hunter and firearms expert before entering into the military. Though he gave up hunting he remained an avid collector of firearms and went target shooting daily until shortly before his death.

Jerry worked as a security guard for General Motors from 1954 until his retirement in 1984, as well as serving on the police force.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of nearly 25 years, Lora Parcham; Jerry was the cherished brother of Joann Silvernale of Longview, TX, and the devoted uncle to Jack Silvernale, Jerry Silvernale, Tammy Silvernale, Sheri Silvernale, and Lauri Silvernale; as well as extended family and friends.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2pm on Friday, May 13, 2022 at Midway Bible Baptist Church, 29 Midway Ln, Fishersville, VA 22939, with Pastor Richard Owen officiating.

The family will greet friends starting at 1:30pm before the service.

“No one had a better companion, friend, and husband. My life feels empty without him by my side, but he left a testimony of his faith in God to comfort me and assure me that we will be together again.”- Lora Parcham, Wife
