Frances May Mackey, 95, passed peacefully in Staunton, VA on August 11, 2023. She was born May 18, 1928 in Flint, MI to the late William and Alice White.
Frances graduated from Flint Northern High School in 1946. She attended Central Michigan College and was a member of the Beta Theta Chapter of Alpha Sigma Alpha Sorority. She was employed as a stenographer for Buick Motor Company in Flint, MI and married the love of her life, Stanley D. Mackey in 1950. During the Korean War they moved to Newport News, VA, where Stanley was stationed, and she worked as secretary to a colonel at Langley Air Force Base. Upon returning to Flint, Frances and Stanley started their family. She was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker throughout the rest of her life.
Frances was beloved by all who met her; she loved spending time with her daughters, their families and with her grandchildren, who held a special place in her heart. Frances was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church Flint where she volunteered in many capacities including Choir Mother and Lay Minister. She was extremely skilled as a seamstress and in other handcrafts. Being physically active was also very important to her; she enjoyed dancing, tennis, waterskiing and lifelong exercise; but her longtime passion was snow skiing, a sport at which she truly excelled.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Stanley; brother, William White and sister, Shirley Petrie.
Frances is survived by her three daughters, Leigh (Ron) Huffstutter of Dillon, CO, Lynne Mackey of Staunton, VA and Leslie (Carlton) Williams of Bozeman, MT; five grandchildren, Maggie Hebron, Jordan (Becca) Hebron, Sophie Wellington, Kim (Ed) King and Veronica Huffstutter; great grandchildren, Grayson Hebron and Willa Hebron; sister-in-law, Marilyn Johnson and many nieces and nephews.
