Elmer G. Alger, Jr., 82, of Waynesboro, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, December 27, 2025 at Augusta Health. He was born in Harrisonburg, on September 2, 1943, a son of the late Elmer G., Sr. and Evelyn Mae (Louderback) Alger.
Elmer received his Bachelor of Science from Virginia Tech and his Master of Science from James Madison University. He worked as an Electrical Engineer with DuPont from 1966 until his retirement in 2005. Elmer was a member of Lyndhurst Faith and Fellowship Church where he served as trustee. He was known to be a “Mr. Fix-it” always putting his intelligence and wonderful skills to the test. Elmer enjoyed fishing with his good buddy, Millard Brookman, watching Virginia Tech football games, and spending time with his family. He will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-son, Mike Bridges.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Sandra (Hunt) Alger; children: James Alger, Daniel Alger, David Alger, and Bryan Bridges; grandchildren: Evalyn Alger, Risa Alger, Lincoln Alger, Stephaine Bridges Cotto, Faith Bridges, and Hope Bridges; brother, Larry Alger; as well as extended family and friends.
A memorial service will be conducted at 3pm on Friday, January 2, 2026 at Lyndhurst Faith and Fellowship Church with Pastor Sabrina von Schilling officiating. A private burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the church.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Charlton and Groome Funeral Home in Fishersville.
