Douglas Elwood Batten, 88, passed away Sunday April 24, 2022. Mr. Batten was born March 12, 1934 to Hugh Lewis Sr. and Stella S. Humphreys Batten. His paternal grandparents were Lewis G. Batten and Lilia W. Batten. Maternal grandparents were Willard and Elizabeth Humphreys. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 66 years Virginia A. Batten (Honey) and his brother, Hugh L. Batten Jr.
Surviving are his four sons, Douglas R. (Sandy), Freddy E. (Becky), Michael W. and Jeffery A. (Dennetta) Batten, 4 grandchildren (Jennifer, Kristin, Adam and Kaitlyn) and 6 great grandchildren.
Mr. Batten loved anything outdoors; hunting, fishing, and gardening. He played on several baseball teams in his younger years. He also drove a race car at one time. He retired from Virginia Metalcrafters. His favorite pastime was “dining out”.
Mr. Batten will be cremated per his request. There will be no visitation or graveside service. There will be a memorial service for family and friends on Monday, May 2, 2022 at 2pm at Waynesboro Free Methodist Church, 600 Hopeman Parkway, Waynesboro.
