Dorothy Fort Obituary

Dorothy “Jean” Fort, 96, passed away Sunday, May 17, 2020 at The Retreat at Fishersville. She was born April 21, 1924 in New Jersey, daughter of the late Alfred Roy Ainscow and Laura Francis Ainscow.

Jean received her BA in Nursing in 1945 in New Jersey and served as a Registered Nurse in Annapolis, Maryland from 1949 until her retirement in 1972, and in Naples, Florida from 1973 until her retirement in 1983. She was a member of the Episcopal Church and the Daughters of the American Revolution and had an interest in ancestry and genealogy.

The family would like to express special appreciation to the staff at The Retreat at Fishersville for their care.  Jean was very happy at the Retreat, even though her residency there lasted but for a short period of time, December 2019 until May 2020.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Robert J. Fort, who died on July 14, 2000.

Survivors include her son, David Roy Fort of Sunnyvale, California; her grandson, Jesse Daniel Fort of San Jose, California; her great-grandson, Kaden Michael Fort of Palo Alto, California; her sister Irma F. Slaughter of Fishersville; her nieces, Elizabeth Fach, Barbara Peters and Jean Slaughter; her nephews, Alan Slaughter, Ellis Fort, James Fort, Ronald Fort and other loved ones, Rosemary Kohler, Claudia M. Fort,  Jane Montevaldo and Jesse S Diggs.

“My mother was 96 years of age at the time of her death, however she will always remain the active woman of my youth.  When I was an adult she was a special grandmother to my son, just as she had been for me when I was a child.  All through my young adult and now into my senior years, she is, and will always be my “hero”.  I have admired her strength of character and willingness to roll up her sleeves and take on the task at hand.  She is the embodiment of what has been called the “Greatest Generation” and now they too are passing from view.”

Rest in peace forever Mom.

Your Loving son, David Roy
