Donald DÁvanzo Obituary

Donald Anthony DÁvanzo, 92, of Waynesboro, Virginia, passed away Friday, September 25, 2020, at his home.  He was born December 14, 1927, in Washington, DC, son of the late Lawrence DÁvanzo and Ines DÁvanzo.

Donald retired in 1985, as an Executive with Giant Food, after 40 years of service. He served in the United States Coast Guard, from 1946 to 1947. He attended St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Waynesboro, Virginia and was a member of The American Legion, which is a veteran’s organization and he was also a member of The Order of the Sons and Daughters of Italy, a fraternal organization of men and women of Italian heritage.

He participated in a Catholic Bible Study Group.  An avid sports fan, he enjoyed football, basketball and baseball.  His favorite teams were The Washington Redskins and The Washington Nationals.

The family would like to offer a very special thanks to the Caregivers from Home Instead Senior Care – “We thank you for being Dad’s family and for providing such loving care and support.”

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Carolynn Maines DÁvanzo; they were married on October 3, 1953.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Dale E. and John J. Baldacci of Alexandria, Virginia; his son, Lawrence S. DÁvanzo of Chantilly, Virginia; his granddaughter, Johanna K. “Jade” DÁvanzo; numerous brothers-in-law, one sister-in-law and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions, in his memory, to The American Legion at www.legion.org or to the Augusta Health Foundation - Hospice of the Shenandoah at www.augustahealth.com/foundation/give.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, funeral services will not be held at the present time, however, a memorial may be held at a later date.  Burial will be in Quantico National Cemetery, Triangle, Virginia.
