Deborah Godfrey Obituary

Deborah Denise Godfrey, 54, of Staunton, passed away, Tuesday, September 3, 2019 in Fishersville.  She was born April 4, 1965 in Muskegon, Michigan, daughter of Leland C. Godfrey of Michigan and Carol Jay Bercume of Staunton.

Deborah was an extremely loving and outgoing person.  She loved shopping, having a good times and making others laugh. She loved animals, especially cats and wolves and enjoyed reading and watching horror.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Clayton Godfrey and Florence McEntaffer; her maternal grandparents, Bernard Jastrzembski and Lucille Stakenas and by Cliff Hammer, who thought of her as a daughter.

In addition to her father and mother, survivors include her two children, Seth Motega Taylor Chiles of Staunton and Kenzie Skyy Godfrey of Staunton; two sisters, Diana Godfrey Barker of Florida and Heather Marie Heaslip and husband, William J. Heaslip of Staunton; nieces and nephews, Sarah Barker of Florida, Charlotte VanNatta of Staunton, Richard Likness of Staunton and Alexandria Wilson of California; one great niece, Serena VanNatta of Staunton; and numerous other aunts and uncles, among them, Uncle Butch Jay and Aunt Kathy of Michigan, Uncle Larry Jay and Aunt Carol Lyn Clausen of California and cousins and special friends in Michigan, Virginia, California, Kentucky and Florida.

Deborah loved her children passionately and would do anything for them.  Deborah will be greatly missed by her family and all who loved her.  We carry Deborah in our hearts and will always remember her sarcasm, her laughter and all the good times we have shared.

“I give this one thought to keep:  I am with you still, I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow, I am the diamond glints on snow, I am the sunlight on the ripened grain, I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in the morning’s hush, I am the swift uplifting rush…of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night.  Do not think of me as gone—I am with you still in each new dawn.”

Special thanks to Augusta Health center for Cancer and Blood Disorders, particularly Dr. Naheed  Velji , who went above and beyond and treated our family like his own
