David Mengel Adam, Jr., 91, of Fishersville, VA, passed away on April 15, 2026. Born May 8, 1934, in Kutztown, PA, to David M. Adam, Sr. and Beulah Geiger Adam. He graduated from Perry Township High School in 1952 and from Penn State in 1957 with a degree in business. He was a member of Sigma Phi Alpha fraternity.
In November 1956, he married Margaret (Peggy) Lloyd whom he met on a blind date at PSU. Though they later divorced, they remained close friends throughout their lives.
After graduation from Officer Candidate School, he served three years in the United States Navy and ended with rank of Lieutenant JG. He spent most of his working career self-employed in mergers and acquisitions. He and Peggy spent their adult lives in Arlington, VA, raising a family being active members of Trinity Presbyterian Church. Athletic, David played basketball and soccer as an adult and later served as a coach for girls’ soccer with the Arlington Kiwanis and church league boys basketball.
He enjoyed hunting, playing drums, following Indy car racing, and was a longtime Penn State football fan. In 2020, David moved to the Shenandoah Valley to be closer to his daughter and her family as he faced the challenges of dementia.
He is survived by Peggy of Fishersville, VA; his sister, Patricia Smith of Allentown, PA; his children: Kyle Adam of Acworth, GA, and Suzanne VanValkenburg (Ron) of Waynesboro, VA; his grandchildren: Brooke Adam and Marcus Rosson; and his nine great-grandchildren: Walker, Conner, Chloe, Carter Grace, Camren, Carter, Chanler, Brixten, and Layten.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at 1 pm at Bethany Lutheran Church in Fishersville, VA. Interment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery later.
In lieu of flowers, donations in David’s memory may be made to Hospice of the Shenandoah-Gifted Care Fund via the Augusta Health Foundation, www.augustahealth.com/foundation/give or Ducks Unlimited, www.ducks.org.
His care has been entrusted to Charlton and Groome Funeral Home in Fishersville, VA.
