Daniel Walter Frend, Jr.

Daniel Walter Frend, Jr., 75, of Waynesboro, passed away Tuesday, September 26, 2023 in Staunton.  He was born February 6, 1948, in Staunton, son of the late Daniel Walter Frend and Janet Katherine Trainum Frend.

Daniel enlisted in the US Navy in August 1967 and served on active duty during the Vietnam Era. Honorably discharged as a Gunner’s Mate in 1971, he last served aboard the USS Tattnall.  He was a Retired Senior IT Specialist, who during his career, from 1971 through 2001, was employed by C&P Telephone, Bell Atlantic, Digital Analysis Corporation, Legent, Computer Associates and Exact One.

An avid reader, he enjoyed reading Agatha Christie and other mysteries.  Among his other interests was watching the Boston Red Sox and the Washington Redskins games, the computer and listening to Jazz music.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of King’s Daughters Community Health and Rehabilitation Center for the care shown Daniel.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death in 2014 by Daniel’s mother, Lucinda Frend and in 1998 by Devin and Collin’s mother, Alma Louise Frend.

Survivors include his sons, Daniel Richard Frend and his spouse, Mindi Frend of Severn, Maryland; Devin Thomas Frend and his spouse, Camalee Lihos of Staunton, Virginia and Collin Craig Frend and his spouse, Caitlan Frend of Everett, Washington; his grandchildren, Daniel’s children, Brennan Frend, Kaitlin Frend and Ava Frend, Collin’s daughter, Ella Frend and Devin’s son, Conrad Frend; his siblings Charles Frend, Susan Gandy, Kathy Rockwell, James Frend and Michael Frend and his friend, Julie Brewer.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, October 5, 2023, in the Chapel of Charlton and Groome Funeral Home, 619Lifecore Drive, Fishersville, Virginia.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 PM until the hour of the service.

A Graveside Service with Military Honors will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, October 6, 2023 at Hillsboro Cemetery, 37125 Charles Town Pike, Hillsboro, Virginia 20132, conducted by Pastor Daniel Wray of Round Hill United Methodist Church. Serving as Active Pallbearers will be Devin Frend, Daniel Frend, Collin Frend, Brennan Frend, Shawn Ward and Bob Griffith.
