Chip Stratton, 53, of Waynesboro, passed away, Friday, October 15, 2021. He was born in Waynesboro, the son of Mary Kennedy and the late Ronnie Stratton.
Chip graduated from Wilson Memorial High School in 1987. Shortly after graduation he enlisted in the US Navy where he was stationed on the Theodore Roosevelt in Newport News. He later transferred to the VA National Guard, retiring as a Sergeant First Class after 21 years of service. All this while working toward earning his Bachelors Degree in 2011 from Averett University.
Chip enjoyed all genres of music. He spent 20 years as an original member of The Faithful Men, singing with the Waynesboro Choral Society and various other music groups. He was also a member of Hermitage Presbyterian Church and served as the choir director for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Robyn Stratton; his three sons, Zac Stratton, and his wife, Kelly and their daughter, Romey of Staunton, Jacob Stratton, and his fiancé, Katie Fridley and their daughter, Evie of Grottoes and Matthew Stratton of Waynesboro; his mother, Mary Kennedy and his step-father, Joe Kennedy of Crimora; his sister, Christie Henderson and her husband, Robert of Love; his half sisters, Amy Stratton of New Hampshire and Nora Stratton of Lovingston; his step-brother, Harley Kennedy and his wife, Marie; his mother-in-law and father-in-law Richard and Sandy Gruver; two brothers-in-law, Greg Gruver and his wife, Amy and Todd Gruver and his wife, Stacey and multitude of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Chip was always one to seek the best view, which are plentiful among the mountain tops of the beautiful Shenandoah Valley. Regardless of how he got there, whether it be by hiking, cruising with Robyn, or riding his beloved motorcycle - the adventure was half the fun. In addition to his love for the outdoors, Chip found joy in the comfort and simplicity of spending time with his family and loving on his two grand babies, Romey and Evie. He often said with genuine adoration, “I just love my family.”.
A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 7, 2021 at the Ballroom at Staple Craft Brewing.
