Charles Daniel “Sonny” Mattox, 69, of Waynesboro passed away on Monday, November 22, 2021 at Martha Jefferson Hospital in Charlottesville. He was born in Franklin, WV on January 22, 1952, a son of the late John Almond and Hilda Jane Mattox.
Sonny was a hardworking man. He mostly worked as a landscaper with Russell Mays, Waynesboro Nursery and Waynesboro Landscaping. Charles most recent job was supervisor at Augusta Memorial Park until his retirement. In his spare time, he greatly enjoyed riding around with his dog, Scooter, and spending time with family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father, Raymond Simmons, step-brother, Curry “Sam” Cole; sisters, Lavern Puccio and Rose Eves; and nephew, Charlie Morris.
Left to cherish is memory is his wife of 42 years, Beda Mattox; sisters, Bessie Tanner, Lena Booth, Dinah Vega, Debra Simmons, and Edith Simmons; daughter, Teresa Stone; granddaughter, Heather Noffsinger and Cynthia Leavell; grandson, Reggie Leavell; nieces, Beth Ann Simmons and Laura Puffenburger ; as well as extended family and friends. Sonny also leaves behind his beloved dog, Scooter.
Following Sonny’s wishes, there will be no services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made towards his funeral cost.
