Catherine "Cathy" Elizabeth (Childs) Lang

Catherine C. “Cathy” Lang, passed away on Thursday, November 3, 2022 at her home in Waynesboro, VA, with her daughter and animals by her side.

Cathy was born in Scranton, PA to Charles W. Childs and Margaretta V. Morris on January 16, 1941.  She graduated from Princeton High School in Princeton, NJ.  She married Randolph R. “Pete” Lang, Sr. in 1978 in Rockbridge Baths, VA. They owned and operated The Captain’s Table Restaurant on Afton Mountain which became Lang’s Art and Gift Shop.  Cathy was a gifted artist though she was her biggest critic. She was a deaconess at the Waynesboro Mennonite Church where she was a member until death. Cathy started a senior exercise group at church because good health was important to her. She was a member of several historical societies and the Shenandoah Art Center. She loved to garden and could be seen in her gardens up until her health failed. 

Cathy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her brother, Edwin E. Childs; her daughter-in-law, Valerie Daves, and stepdaughter-in-law, Melissa Mabry Lang. 

She is survived by her son, William “Wade” Daves and daughter, Mary Daves (JD) Lang; stepdaughters: Sharalyn (Russell) Midgett, Gayle (Jerry) Biggers, Donna (Dr. Delp) Givens; stepson, Randolph R. “Bucky” Lang Jr.;  grandchildren include Kaitlee R. Daves Dunham; step grandchildren: Matt Lang, Taylor Batten, Cali Hammer, Dr. Austen Givens, Eric Lang, Jesse Biggers, Dr. Jonathan Biggers and Dr. Chandler Givens; nephew, Michael E. (Julie) Childs; niece, Christi (Michael) Shetsky. She leaves behind her lap warmer kitty, Cora Belle, her dog, Princess, the third and grand kitty, Kalua.

Visitation will be 6-8 pm on Thursday, November 10, 2022 at Charlton and Groome Funeral Home.

 A graveside service will be held at 2 pm on Friday, November 11, 2022 at Augusta Memorial Park with Pastors Chad Grondin of WWCC and Clair Good of WMC officiating. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Matt Lang, Eric Lang, Paul Gochenour, Charles “Chuck” Ward, Mark Adams and Robert Blair. Honorary pallbearers will be JD Dickerson, Russell Midgett, and Greg Mabry.

Memorials may be given to the SPCA of their choice.
