Barbara Ann (Hill) Stump

Barbara Ann Hill Stump, age 78, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, peacefully entered the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, March 14, 2023.  She was born at home at the family farm in Clintwood, VA ,on February 12, 1945 to Woodrow Wilson Hill and Thelma Elizabeth (Kendrick) Hill.  

Barbara graduated from Fairfax High School in 1963.  On August 10, 1963, she married Robert Lee Stump.  They had one daughter and one son in Fairfax and then relocated the family to live the country life in Verona, VA.  There, they had two additional daughters.  She worked hard to ensure her children had a life full of opportunities and wonderful memories.  She is recalled by all of her children as a loving and giving mother. 

She was retired from Augusta Medical Center and worked for many years at Genesco in Verona.  She was a graduate of the Faith Bible Institute.   Barbara was a strong woman of faith and a member of Crossroads Baptist Church in Fishersville, VA.  Some of her favorite pastimes included gardening, sewing, quilting, crocheting and Bible Study.  She was always playing with her children and grandchildren. She taught quilting classes and her children to cook, sew, crochet, can vegetables and love the Lord.   

She is survived by her husband, Robert Stump and her children: Sandy Stump (Terry), Michael Stump (Kathleen), Kimberly Hebb (Tim) and Tanya Hebb (Kent);

10 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren; sisters, Betty Oxley and Helen Thode (Ralph). She had many other family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Woodrow and Thelma Hill; her brothers:  Franklin, Bob, Lowell, Jack and Kenneth Hill; and one sister, Janice Barton. 

A memorial will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 25, 2023 at Sherlynd Baptist Church, 20 Winterview Ln, Lyndhurst, VA, by Preacher Bill Johnson, with a meal to follow.

Visitation will be held at 11:00a.m. prior to services.
