Anthony “Tony” Wade McCarthy, age 66, of Waynesboro, Virginia, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2026, surrounded by loved ones. He was born on December 9, 1959, in Waynesboro, Virginia, to the late Charles Albert McCarthy and Constance Bennett Howard McCarthy.
In addition to his parents, Tony was preceded in death by his brothers Edward Lewis McCarthy and Curtis Theodore McCarthy, and his sons Anthony Mikeal Hutchinson and Justin Lewis McCarthy.
He is survived by his sons Brandon James Chambers (Leslie), Curtis Wade Hutchinson (Jessica), and Benjamin Aaron McCarthy; his daughter Elizabeth Ann Kane (Jeff); his brothers Charles Albert McCarthy Jr. (Pam) and Robert Elroy McCarthy (T-Ann); his sisters Constina Olahmae McCarthy, Gertrude Loretta Ellington, Sheila Renea Johnson, Belinda Helena McCarthy, and Veratinas Ann McCarthy; and his grandchildren Keleisha “Shye,” Deonte “De,” Sean, James, Elijah, and Jack.
Tony worked for many years as a cook in Waynesboro, Virginia, and Jacksonville, North Carolina. He was also a talented artist whose drawings are treasured by his family. Known throughout Waynesboro, Tony could often be seen riding his bicycle, listening to music, and dancing through town. He never met a stranger and will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Union Baptist Church in Waynesboro, Virginia.
