Alice Brown Shevitz, 81, of Waynesboro, VA passed away on Monday, January 27, 2025.
Alice was born February 4, 1943 in Norfolk, VA to the late Clarence and Elsie Meeks Brown. Alice graduated from Waynesboro High School in 1961 and married Jerry Odom. She gave birth to two daughters who survive her, Mary Elizabeth Eriksson from Warwick, NY and Sherril Brandenburg from Waynesboro, VA.
Alice attended Blue Ridge Community College. She was active in her faith community and loved spending time traveling to the beach and being by the water. She later moved to Richmond, VA where her enthusiasm for travel was ignited and she was given the opportunity to explore thirty-four countries.
While living in Richmond, she met and later married Harold Shevitz, who preceded her in death in 2018. She and Harold made their home in Delaware, Maryland and ultimately found their way back to Waynesboro, VA in 2008.
Throughout her lifetime Alice greatly enjoyed her pets, and her birds, which Purple Martin were among her favorites. She was an avid crocheter, creating many blankets for friends and family and a writer, penning her own blog and many short stories.
Alice is survived by her loving children, Sherril Brandenburg and her husband, Hank, Mary Elizabeth Eriksson and her husband, Karl, Dorian Shevitz and his wife, Julie, Scott D. Adaman and his wife, Lisa, and Victoria Moody; eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Alice was preceded in death by her sister, Peggy Brown and her brother, Robert Brown.
The family will receive friends from 9:00am to 10am on Monday, February 3, 2025 at Charlton and Groome Funeral Home and where a funeral service will be at 10:00am conducted by Pastor Stacey Burkholder.
Entombment will follow at the mausoleum at Augusta Memorial Park in Waynesboro.
Luncheon will follow at Bridge Christian Church 1275 Goose Creek Rd, Fishersville, VA. All are welcome.
