Alfred D. Torrence Jr., 69, of Waynesboro, Va, died peacefully on Wednesday, July 20, 2022. Al was a resident of the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia where he lived and worked as a mechanical engineer for 28 years.
Al was born in Tazewell, Va. to Alfred Sr. and Mary Alice McConnell Torrence. He graduated from Virginia Tech in 1975 with a BS in Civil Engineering and later earned a master’s degree from James Madison University. Al was a goal oriented, life-long learner and held an active professional engineer’s license in two states.
Al was a devoted and loving husband and father who enjoyed traveling, boating, camping and spending time with family and friends. He was a loyal supporter of Virginia Tech Athletics and traveled frequently to attend football and basketball games for over 30 years.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Carolyn; daughter, Chandra; son, James and his partner, Jessica; grandsons, Jack and Rowan; brother, Edward; niece, Jennifer and devoted mother-in-law, Lois Brooks.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date to be determined.
