Rose Ellen (James) Brown

Rose Ellen James Brown, 91, of Fishersville, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, July 22, 2017, peacefully at her home, surrounded by her family.  She was born May 7, 1926 in Augusta County to the late Charles Edward James and Halcie Alice Curry James.

Rose was the oldest surviving member of The Church on the Hill.  She was a very strong woman in her faith and always put God and her family first.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death on April 2, 1974, by her husband, Aubrey H. Brown, Sr.; they were united in marriage on August 19, 1945. She was also preceded in death by one great granddaughter, Katie Elizabeth Brown; two sisters, Evelyn Thornton and Genevieve James and four brothers, Charles, Paul, Calvin and Gene James.

She is survived by her children, Robin (Kenny) Hamilton of Fishersville, Jerry (Karen) Brown of Blue Ridge, Harvey Brown of Fishersville and Dale Brown of Staunton; nine grandchildren, two of which  were raised in her home, Chris (Cherie) Brown and Laura “Minnie” Via; two step-grandsons, Jeremy and Josh Hamilton; thirteen great-grandchildren, to include Emiley (Boo), Caleb, Courtney, Sarah (Michael) and Tristan; two special great-great-grandchildren, Lane and Layah Lawhorn; a large number of nieces and nephews; the family would also like to especially thank Alice Thornton Gee and Tracey Thornton McPherson for their outpouring of love, care and support, not only of Rose, but the entire family. She is also survived by her best friend of many years, Sondra (Ward) Whitesell.

The family would like to thank Dr. Octavio de los Reyes and his staff and the Augusta Health-Hospice of the Shenandoah, especially Nurse Cherie Jones for all the love and care they gave.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, July 25, 2017, from 6-8 pm at The Church on the Hill, Fishersville and where a Celebration of Life service will be conducted on Wednesday, July 26th at 3 pm, conducted by Pastor Shane Lilly and Pastor Corey Smallwood.
