Peter Van Vleet, 76, passed away peacefully at his home on January 14 after a brief battle with cancer. Peter is survived by his loving wife, Doris Van Vleet; his sisters, Lynn Morrison and Lisa Kelley; his children, David Van Vleet (Suyi), Katy McLaughlin (Edward) and Andy Van Vleet; stepdaughters, Michelle Amador (Jorge) and Simone Alley (David); eight grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Peter, originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, was predeceased by his wife, Ann, after a long and happy marriage, and brother, John Van Vleet.
A graduate of Virginia Tech, he spent his career in the U.S. Navy rising to the rank Master Chief Petty Officer and a second career in Civil Service, working for the Navy.
He relocated to the Waynesboro area eight years ago when he remarried. A memorial service will be held 11 am, Saturday, February 9th at Main Street United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Augusta Memorial Park, Waynesboro with Military Honors.
